چکیده

We have searched for IR emission from the intracluster dust (ICD) in the galaxy cluster A2029. Weak signals of enhanced extended emission in the cluster are detected at 24 and 70 μm. However, the signals are indistinguishable from the foreground fluctuations. The 24 versus 70 μm color map does not discriminate the dust emission in the cluster from the cirrus emission. After excluding the contamination from the point sources, we obtain upper limits for the extended ICD emission in A2029, 5×10 Jy sr at 24 μm and 5×10 Jy sr at 70 μm. The upper limits are generally consistent with the expectation from theoretical calculations and support a dust deficiency in the cluster compared to the ISM in our galaxy. Our results suggest that even with the much improved sensitivity of current IR telescopes, a clear detection of the IR emission from ICD may be difficult due to cirrus noise. Far - infrared emission of intracluster dust in the Coma galaxy cluster ?

The ISOPHOT C200 camera aboard ISO has been used to observe the extended far infrared (FIR) emission from the Coma cluster of galaxies. Two scans with 48′ length across the cluster, each at 120 μm and 185 μm, were obtained at crossing position angles. The profiles of the surface brightness ratio I120μm/I185μm along the two scans are quite similar in showing an enhanced 120 μm emission within th...

Probing the origin of the microwave anomalous foreground

Context. The Galactic anomalous microwave emission detected between 10 and 90 GHz is a major foreground to CMB fluctuations. Well correlated with dust emission at 100 µm, the anomalous foreground is interstellar but its origin is still debated. Possible carriers for this emission are spinning, small dust grains carrying a permanent electric dipole. Aims. To probe the origin of the anomalous for...

Infrared Emission from Intracluster Dust Grains and Constraints on Dust Properties

For 117 clusters of galaxies, we explore the detectability of intracluster dust grains by current and future infrared facilities, taking into account both collisional heating and sputtering of grains by ambient plasma. If the dust grains are injected into the intergalactic space with the amount and size comparable to the Galactic values, the dust-to-gas ratio is typically 10 and the mean dust t...

The Reddening Law of Galaxy Cluster Dust

Dust is expected to enter the intracluster medium in galaxy clusters both through stripping of galactic interstellar matter and through dusty winds from intracluster stars. Because the gas in galaxy clusters is 10 6 times hotter than the molecular clouds where galactic dust typically resides, it is a hostile environment for dust grains, which are destroyed by thermal sputtering. The physical pr...

Probing the origin of the microwave anomalous emission

Context. The galactic anomalous microwave emission detected between 10 and 90 GHz is a major foreground to CMB fluctuations. Well correlated to dust emission at 100 µm, the anomalous emission is interstellar but its origin is still debated. Some possible explanations relate it to dust: emission of spinning, small (nanometric) grains carrying a permanent electric dipole or magnetic fluctuations ...
